上智大学の留学生の皆さまとの講座
上智大学の留学生向けに1日講座を開催！
まずは伝統工芸について。
現代にあった形に変化を遂げた成功例をお話しし、自国の伝統工芸が現在どんな形になっているか、水引は今後どのような形で未来に引き継がれていくと良いと思うか、グループディスカッションをしてもらいました。
たくさんの意見が飛び交いました！
若者に水引をかっこいいと思ってもらえる仕組みを作ったらというのはその通りで、課題ですね。
開催場所となった立正寺のご住職、副住職に、仏教伝来について、そしてお焼香の仕方を教わりました。
日本の伝統的な日本舞踊を服部真湖さんが説明を交えながら踊ってくださり、留学生からは踊りの体験もやりたかったなんて声も！
いよいよ水引の体験。思ったより難しい！とかこれは機械ではできないなあとか、楽しかった！また他のものも作ってみたいなど嬉しい声をもらいました。水引のことは今まで知らなかったので、もっと世界に広めた方がいいと！TikTokやらなきゃなんて言われながら、楽しい1日が終わりました。

Lecture on Japanese tradition with
Sophia Univ. students
We held a one-day workshop for international students at Sophia University!
First, we covered traditional crafts.
We shared success stories of traditional crafts that have successfully adapted to the modern era, and then led a group discussion on what form traditional crafts in their home countries have taken today, and how they think mizuhiki should be passed down to future generations.
There was a lively exchange of ideas!
The suggestion to create a system that makes young people think mizuhiki is cool is spot on—it’s definitely a challenge we need to address.
At Risshō-ji Temple, the venue for the event, the head priest and assistant priest taught us about the introduction of Buddhism to Japan and how to offer incense.
Mako Hattori performed a traditional Japanese dance while providing commentary, and some international students even said they wished they could have tried dancing themselves!
Finally, it was time for the mizuhiki workshop. We heard delightful comments like, “It’s harder than I thought!” “This is something a machine couldn’t do,” “That was fun!” and “I’d like to try making other things too.” Since many hadn’t known about mizuhiki before, they said we should spread it more widely around the world! Amid comments like, “We should start a TikTok account,” the fun-filled day came to an end.
